Overall, the High End on Tour event held at Berlin’s andel’s Hotel had an almost profoundly relaxed core atmosphere. Even though the comparison is of course imperfect, the trade show offered, in the most positive sense, the absolute perfect counterpoint to an event like the IFA, where you barely have a chance of escaping the constant sensory overload. Most exhibiting manufacturers were allocated separate spaces across a sprawling two-story venue, and the doors to the individual meeting rooms generally remained closed during presentations. Only in a central ground-floor hall were multiple exhibitors grouped together; all of these either used headphones or operated entirely without sound amplification. That space also hosted the few local retail representatives in attendance. Since neither visitors nor representatives from the exhibiting companies drew attention with overly loud discussions, a comfortable quiet overwhelmingly dominated the entire event site, letting everyone focus on what mattered most: listening to the showcased systems and components.
As was pretty much to be expected, the showcased systems managed to cover the full breadth of our subjective satisfaction scale, spanning everything from 'I want to get out of here right away' to 'That’s actually pretty impressive'. For these presentations, the standard range of music typical for such events was used. In the end, none of the demonstrations blew us completely off our feet; the cozy atmosphere likely simply worked against any overly exuberant outbursts of excitement. That said, we got to have quite a few lovely conversations, so on Sunday, at 16 Uhr sharp, we packed up our small but charming exhibition booth feeling entirely satisfied and still thoroughly relaxed, before heading back towards Berlin.
