The aim is to minimize interference from the shielding on the signal conductor — especially with unbalanced audio cabling (i.e., via RCA) — and at the same time to reduce the propagation of mains-side interference within the respective device. Ground loops cannot be prevented or eliminated by connecting to the mains in the correct phase.
If a device or an entire chain of devices is operated with unfavorable plug polarity, higher equalization currents flow between the devices. Due to the generally used unbalanced signal routing in hi-fi components, this has minimal, in any case measurable, and possibly audible/perceptible effects on the sound.
To make it easier for interested parties and customers to connect their hi-fi/video devices in the correct phase, we offer the local option of borrowing the precisely and reliably functioning phase detector PDV-02 from the manufacturer MFE upon presentation of a photo ID and/or against a deposit.
