The Sennheiser HE 1 – A legend arrives. And we're celebrating it...

Der Sennheiser HE 1 – Eine Legende trifft ein. Und wir feiern sie...

In 1991, Sennheiser launched the first Orpheus system with the HE 90/HEV 90. Even then, it was revolutionary in sound and technology – and, at around 20,000 D-Mark, the most expensive headphones in the world.

25 years later, for the company's 70th anniversary, the dream was reissued – more uncompromising, more perfect, more groundbreaking: The HE 1.

The HE 1 doesn't just set new standards in sound: When switched on, eight tubes elegantly extend from the housing, and the volume controls precisely emerge from the marble block – an audiophile spectacle. Then you put on the headphones and hear how detailed music can sound.

Its vacuum tubes are connected to a spring-loaded, damped housing made of marble – preventing structure-borne sound transmission – and surrounded by quartz bulbs that protect against airborne sound interference. This state-of-the-art amplifier thus features extremely impulse-faithful reproduction with the lowest possible distortion. For digital/analog conversion, the amplifier can receive digital signals via optical and coaxial SPDIF inputs or the USB input. It also processes high-resolution PCM and DSD data. Music data is converted into analog signals using the 8 internal DACs of the ESS SABRE ES9018. The parallel use of four channels per stereo side increases sonic precision and reduces distortion and noise.

The Sennheiser HE 1 is the first electrostatic headphone with Cool Class A MOS-FET high-voltage amplifiers integrated into the ear cups.

With a frequency response from 8 Hz to over 100 kHz, and the lowest distortion ever measured for a sound reproduction system: 0.01% at 1 kHz, 100 dB SPL.
