Televisions are not what they used to be...

While originally based on cathode ray tubes, we are now in the age of LED (Light-Emitting Diode), LCD (Liquid Crystal Display), and plasma screens. These modern technologies for displaying moving images allow for flat screens whose depth resembles a wall painting. Furthermore, 3D screens are finding a growing fan base. Screen diagonals now extend to over 2 meters.

To fully utilize a Smart TV's functions, a broadband connection and, if necessary, a router are required. Control and operation are done via an app-enabled smartphone or tablet, or using a USB or Bluetooth keyboard. Samsung offers a keyboard as an accessory that combines a touchpad, mouse control, and device remote control. For those who don't favor these options, voice and gesture control provide alternative ways to operate the device. Functions such as turning the TV on and off, changing channels, accessing apps, and browsing the web via a browser are just a few examples. In addition, a built-in and retractable video camera allows not only logging into personal user accounts via facial recognition but also video calls using Skype™.

Interfaces such as USB, network (Ethernet), WLAN, and memory card slots provide access to various media and internet and additional services. There are almost no limits to the imagination here. Images, videos, and music in almost all formats stored on NAS (Network Attached Storage) can be played back or streamed to appropriately compatible and networked devices. Samsung calls this service AllShare. With the corresponding app, it is possible to view or listen to data from mobile devices on a large-format TV.

Once registered with the corresponding video-on-demand portals, it is possible to watch video in HD quality via stream, e.g., through Maxdome, Germany's largest online video library. Not only can movies be watched, but a large selection of TV series are also available on demand.

Sony TVs come with the so-called Digital Concert Hall pre-installed: Here, performances by the Berlin Philharmonic are either streamed live or accessed from the archive of 160 titles.

In addition, game apps can be downloaded and played on Samsung TVs. The cult game Angry Birds is an example here.

So: A Smart TV is no longer just suitable for watching television, but also for surfing, streaming, gaming, and communicating.

We would be happy to provide you with comprehensive advice on the many possibilities of modern devices.
