LG TV 2016 - Overview

LG TV 2016 - Überblick

Picture Quality – "Perfect Black"

This year, too, the centerpiece of LG's presentation was OLED technology, whose consistent use in the premium segment has been its unique selling point compared to the three major competitors Samsung, Panasonic, and Sony for years. Since HDR is clearly at the forefront of the TV market this year, the advantages of OLED displays in reproducing such content were naturally highlighted and underscored by both support for the HDR standard Dolby Vision and certification by the UHD Alliance – keyword Ultra HD Premium. Furthermore, LG reinforced its argument with the demo material shown: the images were razor-sharp, the vibrant colors – and also their absence in the form of the much-cited "perfect black" – were impressive.

Models & Design

Also noteworthy is the design, especially of the two premium series OLED G6 (77 and 65 inches) and OLED E6 (65 and 55 inches), which are largely technically identical and equipped with the extremely slim "Picture-on-glass" displays (first image below). Both model series also feature a combined stand with an integrated Harman & Kardon soundbar. While this can be folded into a VESA-compatible wall mount for the G6 series, the stand construction for the E6 series must be removed for wall mounting, and a separate bracket is used. The OLED C6D (Curved) and B6D series devices are generally less extravagant and do not come with a soundbar stand, but they also have Harman & Kardon speaker systems and are by no means visually inferior.
