Especially the Instant Preview function, a picture-in-picture preview of multiple HDMI sources, are useful innovations. But Marantz has also thought of everything on the hardware side: a generous number of connectivity options and two displays on the front of the device (clever and chic, the larger display hidden under the front flap!) ensure not only superb sound but also an appealing appearance. The preamplifier offers both RCA and XLR connections, so it can easily harmonize with all conceivable power amplifiers.
We are running a combination of the AV-8801 preamplifier and the MM-8077 power amplifier; the 7-channel power amplifier provides sufficient power and control for our very high-quality KEF in-ceiling speakers. And should we need to equip our cinema with the Blade or a pair of 802 Diamond for a demonstration, the Mark Levinson power amplifier can be connected within minutes and, thanks to the XLR connection, is ready for use without compromise. A Marantz UD7007 or an Oppo 105 is used as the source. Likewise, an excellent satellite receiver, a Technisat HD S2, is included in the demonstration.
Sony VPL VW1000
To properly assess the picture quality, we have now permanently installed the Sony reference projector VPL-VW-1000, currently the only 4K projector for home use, in our demonstration.
