Modern Home Cinema Sound: The Monitor Audio Soundframe SF1

Moderner Heimkino Klang: Die Monitor Audio Soundframe SF1

General Information

Let's first take a look at the design of the Soundframe SF1. Like all models in the series, the SF1 is available in high-gloss white or black. Upon request, it can even be delivered primed in white. As expected, the Soundframe SF1 sits in a solidly crafted enclosure that offers high quality and stable wall mounts embedded in the casing. You decide whether the speaker is placed vertically or horizontally. A template is included to assist you with positioning.

Even more exciting is that the fabric cover of the speaker can be individualized. You can even have your own pictures printed on it to personalize your speakers or discreetly integrate them into your living space. Thus, there are no limits to the design possibilities!

Particularly relevant for the speaker is that it is optionally available as an in-wall or on-wall version. The actual difference between the two, however, lies only in the mounting. While the on-wall models, as already mentioned, come with the necessary wall mounts, the in-wall speakers are held in the recess. Both variants are just under 9 cm deep and feature virtually invisible cable routing. The speaker therefore protrudes minimally from the wall and, if the right color is chosen, appears impressively inconspicuous.

The Technology

The Soundframe SF1 is an eight-kilogram, sealed 3-way system. Therefore, you should not expect a bass reflex port here. What you can look forward to, however, are a 165 mm mid-bass driver, a 102 mm midrange, and a 25 mm tweeter dome. Since the midrange and tweeter drivers are arranged as a coaxial unit, they have been positioned on the same acoustic axis. But as is also known from this type of speaker, the units are movable and can thus be aligned to any listening position. This supports the great flexibility of this model.

Conclusion

What is probably also interesting to know and should round off our explanations is that the Soundframe SF2 was designed as a center speaker. The Soundframe SF3, on the other hand, is a surround or ceiling speaker. The SF1, which we described as the front speaker, can also be used in a surround setup. All models together form a complete 3D home theater system.
