Simply put, if the speaker is too close to the wall and therefore has an overly powerful bass, the calibration system will reduce a certain amount of bass to prevent booming. However, the corrections
are much more complex than with analogue stereo amplifiers: they are made for all frequencies simultaneously and also take into account the time component — i.e., the timing of the individual components in the loudspeakers. Such complex settings require electronic aids and the processing power of a processor.
"Audyssey Laboratories" offers a professional calibration system that significantly enhances many AV receivers with MultEQ XT 32 and MultEQ XT. A prerequisite is that the receiver is Audyssey-MultEQ Pro compatible — this is the case, among others, with all current larger Denon and Marantz devices.
Currently supported devices include:
- AVC-A1HDA in the 3D Edition
- AVP-A1HDA in the 3D Edition
- Denon AVR-4520
- Denon AVR-X4000
- Marantz AV8801
- Marantz SR7008
- Onkyo TX-NR 5010
- Onkyo TX-NR 3010
The advantages of Audyssey MultEQ Professional calibration are clearly audible. By using a better microphone, all measured results are significantly more accurate. The use of a computer also provides much more processing power. This allows up to 32 measurement points to be taken, and the calculation is also much more precise. The combination of an improved microphone and better calculation ensures a significantly more coherent sound image. Since dynamic equalizing (DynEQ), a volume-dependent loudness, particularly benefits from the calibration of the Pro system, professional calibration is advantageous not only in acoustically challenging rooms. Even in our best cinema rooms, our receivers with Pro calibration perform noticeably better than with standard calibration — especially at low and medium volumes. We would be happy to demonstrate the differences in our cinemas.

Audyssey Pro calibration is carried out by one of our employees on site. We bring all necessary accessories, including a calibrated measurement microphone and a matching external microphone amplifier from Audyssey, as well as a Windows computer with the Audyssey MultEQ Professional Software. Our technician will go through the calibration process with you step by step and make all settings according to Audyssey's recommendations, taking your listening habits into account — this is the only way to ensure optimal performance. Finally, you will receive a certificate for your system, including frequency charts before and after calibration.

Important: You need an Audyssey Pro license for your A/V receiver, which currently costs 150 dollars (approx. 120€). We purchase the license key directly from Audyssey and bring it to the agreed appointment. For this, we need the exact model name, serial number, and MAC address of your receiver. The license is tied to your receiver; it cannot be transferred to another device later. An internet connection is not required for calibration, but the receiver should have the latest software to avoid complications. We charge a flat rate of 350€ for travel and calibration in the Berlin area; further travel is possible by arrangement and with a corresponding travel flat rate.
