New AV Devices from Denon and Yamaha

Yamaha primarily brings new features and functions of the larger models to the mid-range (e.g., the extremely useful Dialogue Lift function).

Denon is upgrading with a new Blu-ray player and more attractive, better-connected devices in the mid-range.

Both manufacturers champion efficiency – while Yamaha offers an “Eco mode” activatable via the menu, Denon also promotes itself with a green Eco label.

Since both manufacturers were already economical in the previous generation, in my opinion, one should primarily pay attention to the other features:

Both manufacturers now offer 4k upsampling – i.e., 4 times as many pixels as a Blu-ray contains. Playback devices are only available this year – but due to their price ranges, they will probably be combined with larger receivers, at least in the projector sector. In the case of the Sony VPL-VW1000 projector, we're talking about a good €18,000!

With Denon, we were particularly impressed by the initial setup wizard and the remote control programming – it has never been easier to get a TOP result from an AV receiver.

Yamaha appears more modern when it comes to app control via Android or iOS; Denon has scored points in recent years with its more relaxed and minimally more natural stereo reproduction.

For all curious readers, Areadvd has already discussed the Yamaha models.

The Denon devices are already listed on the Denon homepage; the first 2113 models will be available this week.

The new Denon models are positioned in the price range of €329 to €899, the new Blu-ray player costs €499 and seems to be completely fanless for Denon for the first time.

If the fundamental virtues of both manufacturers remain unchanged, the roles are clearly distributed. We eagerly await the new models – and will put them through their paces in our cinemas to see who can shine as the winner in which discipline.
