The stereo receiver, dubbed SR10, offers features that would even make more expensive competitors nervous. A 500-watt transformer provides plenty of power, while the sound itself is "typically Cambridge"—energetic, powerful, and very fast. Exactly what you'd expect from an amplifier with 85 watts into 8 ohms. With this power, the SR10 surpasses even more expensive integrated amplifiers from its own brand. To ensure cooling even under particularly harsh conditions (after all, "Bafög-Killers" are bound to appear at student parties), Cambridge has installed a fan in the unit, which fortunately remained completely off during our tests at elevated room volume. Only at very high levels can you feel a draft at the back of the receiver, but you won't hear it anyway due to the high music volume.

As an entry-level and upgrade device for ambitious music listeners, the SR10 is an absolute dream. It's not even a bother that the new Topaz series is only manufactured in black. The elegant silver aluminum front thus remains a unique selling point of the integrated amplifiers or the pre/power amp combination of the Azur series.
