Some time ago, we already discussed the R50 and their use. Similar to the R-series speakers, the Q50a are placed on existing front and rear speakers. This means their sound is directed towards the ceiling – the high-frequency range remains naturally detailed and natural. If you don't have floor-standing speakers or simply don't want to use this concept, you can also mount the speakers on the wall. In any case, the sound is reflected from the ceiling, eventually reaching your ear. This path characterizes these speakers as reflective speakers.
The Q50a are based on KEF's well-known Uni-Q principle. The driver features improved suspension and a lighter diaphragm. Additionally, an updated generation consisting of a 25 mm tweeter and a 130 mm aluminum mid/bass driver was incorporated. This allows for broad frequency reproduction between 96 Hz and 19.5 KHz.
The Q50a speakers were, of course, optimized for the KEF Q series. Nevertheless, these speakers can also be used with speakers from other AV systems. Ultimately, the positioning relative to the seating position and the overall ceiling height are important.
