For some weeks now, we have also had the flagship integrated amplifier on display. The English are asking a proud €4950 for the powerhouse – for the same money, you could also get the M6Pre and M6PRX pre/power amplifier combination. So we asked ourselves, why build another large integrated amplifier for the same money? Until the M6500i gave us the answer.
Both solutions offer punch, power, and control at a very high level. However, with particularly large or demanding loudspeakers, and especially at very high volumes, the 28kg integrated amplifier impressively shows what "more" it has to offer and why it can be a serious alternative to the pre/power combination. The dual-mono design with 12 Sanken output transistors per channel can pump up to 1250 watts of pulse power per channel into 4-ohm speakers – guaranteeing that the amplifier will not be a "power bottleneck." So, for those who are looking for ample amplifier power in all situations, desire good sound, and shy away from the price of a fully-fledged Audionet or Accuphase combination – you should definitely listen to the Musical Fidelity powerhouse. We have the M6500i – just like all other current Musical Fidelity amplifiers – on display.
A very strong competitor from within the company is the combination of the M6i integrated amplifier, supplemented by the M6PRX power amplifier. This solution offers bi-amping for a similar price, and only at the absolute maximum volume does it have to concede to the integrated amplifier.
Particularly interesting for all home cinema enthusiasts: Every current Musical Fidelity amplifier offers a home cinema bypass, allowing the amplifiers to be perfectly integrated into a surround set.
