The Dragon is not only the best interconnect cable AudioQuest has ever made, it may well be the best the world has ever seen or heard.
Combining first-class materials and state-of-the-art noise dissipation technologies, the Dragon comes as close as possible to AudioQuest's sonic ideal - the completely invisible cable. It features solid Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) conductors, ZERO-Tech, FEP Air-Tube insulation, silver-plated, RF-draining plug housings, and a Level 7 Noise-Dissipation System, where even the shielding is 100% PSS.
No effort was spared, no detail neglected.
The Dragon follows directly from highly acclaimed designs from AudioQuest's storied past, while being something entirely and unmistakably new, incinerating its predecessors like a true dragon.
All Mythical Creature interconnects are available with custom RCA and XLR connectors.
ZERO-Tech (No Characteristic Impedance) for Linear, Broadband Noise Dissipation
The only way to avoid faulty characteristic impedance matching between the cable and the connected source and load circuits is to not allow any characteristic impedance in the cable. ZERO-Tech achieves this by eliminating the electrostatic field between signal-low and signal-high conductors. This enables linear noise dissipation (evenly from octave to octave) of high-frequency (HF) noise as well as uncompressed transients. To maintain complete ZERO-Tech insulation between the signal conductors, a double DBS pack is included for XLR cables.
Solid Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) Conductors
Solid conductors prevent electrical and magnetic strand interaction. The high purity of Perfect-Surface Silver minimizes distortion caused by grain boundaries existing in any metal conductor, thereby almost completely eliminating harshness in the sound and greatly improving transparency compared to OFHC, OCC, 8N, and other coppers.
FEP-Air-Tube Dielectric
The positive conductors benefit from almost no contact between the metal and the FEP insulation. The latter is characterized by excellent dielectric constant and minimal signal interference. The negative conductors benefit from "intentionally lossy insulation" – the job of the negative conductor is aided by the absence of air and FEP.
72-V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS) with Level X RF Noise Trap
Every insulation is also a dielectric, whose properties affect the integrity of the signal. If the insulation is not biased, dielectric interference (absorption and non-linear release of energy back into the signal flow) causes different time delays (phase shift) for different frequencies and energy levels, which is a significant problem for very time-critical multi-octave audio.
AudioQuest's multi-patented DBS creates a strong, stable electrostatic field that saturates and polarizes (organizes) the insulation's molecules. This minimizes non-linear time delays, resulting in a more transparent sound against a "blacker" background.
The Level X HF noise trap (a technology developed for the AudioQuest Niagara series) in the DBS battery pack "pulls" HF noise out of the cable and prevents HF from entering the electronics. DBS battery packs last approximately 10 years. Check their status using the test switch.
Level 7 Noise-Dissipation (Interconnect Cables):
ZERO-Tech + 72-V-DBS + Carbon/Graphene Mesh Network + Directionality
High-frequency noise caused by smartphones, Wi-Fi, and satellites is everywhere. AQ's Level 7 linear noise reduction includes a resistive carbon and graphene mesh network, direction-controlled conductors, 72-V-DBS, and drain wires made of Solid Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS). The masking effects of RF noise are significantly reduced.
Hanging Silver over Red Copper Plugs
The best plugs in the AudioQuest range feature high-quality hanging silver (no tumbling process) on extremely pure red copper.
Silver-plated, RF-Draining Housings
Grounded, silver-plated housings maximize noise dissipation by minimizing capacitive coupling of RF noise with the signal conductors.
