Performance and Design
The Ovation AS XL is designed as a powerful streaming integrated amplifier with very high output power. The power amplifier operates at 2 x 400 watts into 4 ohms and 2 x 250 watts into 8 ohms, which is aimed at providing reliable control even with demanding speakers. For this, AVM combines Class A/AB with a consistent dual-mono design. The amplifier is thus clearly positioned in the high-end segment and designed for stability.Power Supply and Signal Path
The power supply is based on a 1000VA toroidal transformer and a very high filter capacitance per channel. In addition, there are 24 high-power MOSFETs per channel that deliver the power for the power amplifier. AVM also uses a fully DC-coupled analog signal path without capacitors in the signal path. This is a technical approach designed for direct, transparent, and stable playback.Streaming and DAC
In the digital domain, the AS XL uses the AVM X-Stream Engine® and the S-DAC module based on the ESS 9038 PRO Double-Quad DAC. PCM up to 384 kHz / 32-bit and DSD256 are supported. In addition, there is Roon Ready, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth 5.0, Spotify Connect, Qobuz Connect, Tidal Connect MAX, and internet radio. Thus, the amplifier covers all the key digital sources and streaming services.Connections and Integration
The AS XL offers a very wide range of connections for modern and classic setups. In addition to the digital inputs, there are analog RCA and XLR inputs, as well as matching outputs. HDMI ARC allows direct integration of a TV, and USB-C is used for audio input from a computer. Additionally, USB-A, trigger options, and home theater throughput are provided, which simplifies integration into larger systems.Chassis and Practical Use
At 430 x 250 x 420 mm and 50 kg, the Ovation AS XL is a robust unit that also physically reflects its technical specifications. The chassis is designed as a high-quality, heavy enclosure and is delivered in a flight case packaging. It can also be operated via a large OLED display and the AVM app or RC-X app. Thus, the device combines classic high-end operation with modern network control.Technical data
