100 watts of pure tube sound
Cayin is expanding its popular high-end series of integrated tube amplifiers with the particularly powerful Jazz 90. With two times 50 watts RMS continuous power and outstanding stability, it also drives many loudspeakers that were previously denied tube operation. Its connectivity is state of the art: with several analogue line inputs, a built-in MM phono amplifier and Bluetooth receiver along with a Hires DAC, it combines classic amplifier technology with a wide range of application options.
Tube amplifier with KT88 tubes
Cayin has succeeded in combining the finest tube sound with powerful dynamics thanks to newly dimensioned, even wider bandwidth transformers and a particularly stable push/pull circuit. Two KT88 power tubes each amplify one half-wave per channel, and the special circuitry of the Jazz 90 allows the pair to work together particularly harmoniously in the crossover range. The oversized output transformers provide a stable output power of two times 50 watts RMS in continuous power, and can also cope with loads below 4 ohms.
In addition to the four output tubes, the Jazz 90 is equipped with two input tubes of type 12AX7 or ECC83 and two driver tubes of type 6SN7. Compared to previous circuits, the power supply has also been reinforced so that the Jazz 90 is particularly stable, even when power is called up.
In addition to the KT88, which is supplied as standard, fans of ‘tube rolling’ can also use EL34 tubes thanks to the simple switchover.
Flexible from Bluetooth to phono
The Cayin Jazz 90 combines a classic tube concept with the flexible connection options expected of a modern amplifier today. The user can choose between four inputs via IR remote control: Two classic cinch/RCA line inputs and an analogue input with the built-in phono amplifier. This enables the direct connection of a record player with an MM cartridge.
The Jazz 90 also features a modern Bluetooth receiver for direct wireless playback of digital signals. With Bluetooth 5.1 and high-quality codecs such as AAC, aptX HD and LDAC, high quality is guaranteed even with wireless playback. The built-in ESS ES9018K2M D/A converter ensures excellent conversion characteristics and sound quality.
A fully-fledged headphone output on the front panel drives practically all commercially available headphones. An additional RCA output makes it possible to connect a subwoofer.
VU meters on the front panel show the current power rating of both channels and give the Jazz 90 a timeless, technical look.
Bias control and protection circuits
The Cayin Jazz 90 not only offers an excellent sounding and stable tube amplifier circuit, it can also be adapted to different types of power tubes and the user's wishes. In addition to the KT88, which is supplied as standard, fans of ‘tube rolling’ can also use EL34 tubes thanks to the simple switchover.
When setting the bias for each tube, the left-hand pointer instrument serves as an indicator for the ideal setting. The built-in bias monitoring indicator circuit (BMI) constantly monitors the operating status of the tubes and switches the amplifier into a protect mode in the event of deviations from the tolerances.
The user can choose to use the output tubes in power-optimised, highly controlled ultralinear/pentode mode or select the purist triode mode for a particularly natural overtone spectrum.
Different output transformer taps with separate terminals for 4 or 8 ohms enable optimum adaptation of voltage reserves, current delivery capacity and damping factor to either high or low impedance speakers.
