In the V10 phono preamplifier, Hegel brings together all its expertise in signal amplification and 30 years of experience in developing discrete transistor circuits. The result is a neutral, dynamic, and exceptionally powerful phono preamplifier.
- Discrete JFET transistor input stage with extremely low noise for both MC and MM
- Subsonic Filter
- Balanced (XLR) output
- Extremely precise and versatile adaptation to cartridges of different designs
- Auto-Standby
The chassis is divided into two sections that physically separate the power supplies from the sensitive amplifier circuitry. There are absolutely no measurable interferences between the two sections. For the best possible connection, Hegel has equipped the V10 with gold-plated connectors, balanced XLR outputs, and a solid, custom-made grounding screw. In the particularly important input stage, extremely low-noise discrete JFET transistors have been used for both the Moving-Magnet (MM) and Moving-Coil (MC) inputs. The elimination of external noise is particularly crucial when using sensitive low-output MC cartridges. For this reason, the MC input is equipped with four such transistors connected in parallel. This makes the input completely noise-free and prevents any feedback of the bias current to the cartridge coil. The input signal is fed into equally noise-free amplifier circuits, with both the MM and MC gain stages employing extremely low-noise power supplies with discrete bipolar transistors to minimize signal noise. This ensures extremely accurate amplification of the input signal coming from the turntable.
To ensure that the V10 operates under the best conditions, it comes with a linear, low-noise, analog AC power supply. This features a large, custom-made E-core transformer housed in its own enclosure to eliminate any interference. Hegel evidently found it particularly important that all vinyl enthusiasts can enjoy the V10. Therefore, it is configured from the outset as an excellent plug-and-play MM preamplifier.
For many, this is exactly what they want and need, but some want even more. For this reason, the V10 has been made highly optimizable by accommodating individual preferences and requirements during setup. The V10 can be customized for any MM and MC cartridge system. When using an MM cartridge, you can increase the capacitance between 100 and 467 pF as desired, and when using an MC cartridge, the impedance can be continuously adjusted between 33 and 550 ohms or set to 47 kOhms. For both MM and MC cartridges, the gain can be increased by 5, 10, or 12 dB, matching the output of your other sources. The V10 even features a subsonic filter to remove unwanted low-frequency disturbances.
And at the end of the night, when the listening session goes well past bedtime and you've forgotten to turn off the V10, the adjustable auto-standby function will do it for you. All this makes the V10 the perfect companion for your record setup. This way, you will find the perfect synergy between your system and your listening preferences.
