JBL Storms the Summit of High-End Loudspeakers
The JBL Summit Ama is a compact reference loudspeaker for the discerning music lover, mounted on high-quality stands.
AMA (a-ma)
"Ama Dablam," a mountain in Nepal, means "Mother's Necklace" and reaches a height of 6,812 m (22,349'). The Ama is also referred to as the "Matterhorn of the Himalayas" due to its impressive, iconic shape.
The Summit Ama features newly developed drivers, starting with JBL's patented D2815K 1.5-inch (38 mm) dual diaphragm, dual-motor compression driver. This is mated to a large-format Sonoglass® High-Definition Imaging (HDI™) horn. The sonic foundation of the Summit Ama is an 8-inch (200 mm) cast-frame woofer with a triple-layer Hybrid Carbon-Cellulose Composite (HC4) cone, consisting of a patented combination of carbon fiber and pure cellulose on the front and back. These layers are bonded to a closed-cell foam core. The hybrid cone construction provides the optimal combination of stiffness, mass, and structural stability to ensure high performance, low distortion, and high power handling.
Signal distribution to the individual drivers in the Summit Ama is handled by a MultiCap™ crossover with single-wire as well as bi-amp/bi-wire connectivity. By using numerous smaller capacitors instead of fewer large components, this design achieves a lower ESR (equivalent series resistance) and reduces energy losses through mechanical movements. The result is higher signal throughput to the drivers, improved power handling, enhanced dynamics, extremely low distortion, and exceptional sound clarity.
All driver and crossover components are housed in an elaborately designed enclosure featuring an internal, multi-braced and damped construction with curved walls to minimize internal standing waves. The enclosures are available in a choice of high-gloss black finish with Summit Platinum accents or high-gloss ebony veneer with Summit Gold accents. The Summit Ama comes with a matching steel and aluminum floor stand featuring dual columns and specially designed JBL IsoAcoustic® isolation feet. These feet minimize vibrations generated by the loudspeaker and effectively decouple it from the surface. The isolation ensures more precise bass, an improved soundstage, and clearer and more spatially differentiated imaging.
