JBL Storms the Summit of High-End Loudspeakers

PUMORI (poo-MOR-ee)
Nicknamed the “Daughter of Everest,” Pumori rises to an elevation of 7,161 m (23,494') and is located only 8 km west of Everest. Pumori is a delightful mountain located in Nepal-Tibet’s upper Khumbu region. Climbers often use Pumori to gain security and learn technical skills before taking on the Everest climb.
The Summit Pumori features newly engineered transducers, beginning with JBL’s patented D2815K 1.5-inch (38mm) dual-diaphragm, dual-motor compression driver mated to a large-format Sonoglass® High-Definition Imaging (HDI™) horn. The Summit Pumori’s sonic foundation is built upon an 8-inch (200mm) cast-frame midrange and a 10-inch (250mm) cast-frame woofer. Both transducers use a three-layer Hybrid Carbon-Cellulose Composite (HC4) cone consisting of a proprietary blend of carbon fiber and pure cellulose pulp on the front and back, enclosing a closed-cell foam core. This hybrid cone construction ensures optimal stiffness, mass, and structural integrity—for high output, low distortion, and maximum power handling.
Signal distribution to the individual transducers is handled by a MultiCap™ crossover network with single-wire as well as bi-amp/bi-wire connectivity. By employing numerous smaller capacitors rather than a few large components, this design reduces equivalent series resistance (ESR) and minimizes energy loss due to mechanical movement. The result is higher signal throughput to the transducers, improved dynamics, increased power handling, ultra-low distortion, and exceptional clarity.
All transducer and crossover components are housed within an elegantly styled cabinet featuring an internally multi-braced and damped construction with curvilinear walls. This design minimizes internal standing waves within the enclosure. The loudspeaker cabinets are available in either a high-gloss black finish with Summit Platinum accents or a high-gloss ebony veneer with Summit Gold accents. The Summit Pumori stands on a set of purpose-designed JBL | IsoAcoustics® isolation feet, which are directly anchored to the floor. These feet resist vibrations caused by the speaker drivers and effectively decouple the speaker from the floor surface. The result is tight, precise bass, improved spatial imaging, and a clearly defined soundstage.
