Because a planar magnetic speaker's diaphragm is extremely thin and even lighter than the air it moves, planar magnetic speakers are known for their sensitivity and accuracy without the blurry effects of excessive inertia. However, the downside to these speakers is that they are unable to move enough air mass to produce the bass quality preferred by most listeners.
