Conductor and Geometry
The AudioQuest Jaws EU–IEC C13 is a high-quality built power cable for components with an IEC-C14 device socket. AudioQuest uses consistent Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) as the conductor material. The phase and neutral conductors each have a cross-section of 3.31 mm², while the protective conductor is dimensioned at 2.08 mm². The conductors are arranged in a direction-controlled Semi-Solid-Concentric Geometry. This design is intended to enable a constant conductor position and reduce interactions between the conductors.
ZERO-Tech and Noise Dissipation
AudioQuest uses ZERO-Tech for the Jaws, a geometry with very low characteristic impedance. The goal is energy transmission to the connected component that is as uncompressed as possible. Additionally, RF/ND-Tech is used for broadband dissipation of high-frequency interference. The cable also has four-layer shielding, which includes a graphene layer. This design is engineered to reduce high-frequency radiation and interference components introduced via the protective conductor pathway.
Connection and Compatibility
The version described here has a European Schuko plug on the mains side and an IEC-C13 plug on the device side. The IEC-C13 plug fits onto an IEC-C14 mains socket, as used in many HiFi and AV components. These include, for example, integrated amplifiers, preamplifiers, DACs, network players, CD players, and many power conditioners. The C13 version is specified for a maximum current carrying capacity of 10 Amperes RMS at 230 Volts and 50 Hertz. Before purchasing, however, you should always check what mains connection the respective manufacturer provides for the device.
Build and Practical Use
With an outer diameter of 18 millimeters, the AudioQuest Jaws is significantly thicker than a typical bundled power cable. The cable ends are fitted with cold-welded and direct gold-plated connectors. Due to the large diameter and massive conductor, sufficient space behind the device should be considered during setup. Particularly with components placed close to walls or tight racks, attention must be paid to a generous bending radius. For this, the cable is designed for a mechanically robust and permanently stable connection.
Classification
The AudioQuest Jaws is positioned as an elaborately constructed power cable for high-quality HiFi and home theater systems. It combines large-dimensioned PSC+ conductors with multi-layer shielding, ZERO-Tech, and targeted dissipation of high-frequency interference. The C13 version is the appropriate choice for devices with the common IEC-C14 socket and maximum 10 Amperes current draw. If you operate a particularly powerful amplifier or a device with an IEC-C20 input, on the other hand, you need the corresponding C19 version. The Jaws is therefore particularly suitable for users who want to build their power wiring specifically and system-compatibly.
