The RME ADI-2/4 Pro EX represents the next evolutionary stage of RME's flagship professional AD/DA converters. Designed for uncompromising audio quality, the new model combines state-of-the-art ESS converter technology, high-precision clock architecture, and extensive routing and monitoring functions in a compact desktop format.

As a versatile reference mastering hub, the ADI-2/4 Pro EX functions simultaneously as a high-quality A/D and D/A converter, USB audio interface, and powerful headphone amplifier. The EX version extends the proven concept with numerous technical improvements that appeal to both professional recording studios and demanding hi-fi and headphone enthusiasts.

New EX Generation with Optimized Hardware

The new EX version utilizes modernized ESS converter generations for even better measurements and maximum transparency. The new ESS9823Pro A/D converter significantly improves signal-to-noise ratio and THD+N values, ensuring precise analog-to-digital conversion at a reference level. At the same time, the ESS9039Q2M D/A converter delivers further optimized values for SNR, THD, and THD+N for particularly detailed and natural playback.

Another focus is on increased operational reliability. The new channel-independent DC protection circuit reliably protects connected headphones from DC voltage errors. This is complemented by an active, fuse-less power supply protection circuit that automatically detects and prevents incorrect polarity and overvoltage.

Modernized Connections and Flexible Integration

The new lockable USB-C port ensures a secure and reliable connection in studio and desktop operation. Despite the modern USB-C design, the interface remains fully USB 2.0 compatible. A suitable 1.8-meter cable is included.

Thanks to the new GND screw, the ADI-2/4 Pro EX can now be integrated even more easily into analog hi-fi and vinyl setups. Turntables or external devices can be directly grounded to effectively avoid ground loops and interference.

Furthermore, the device is fully compatible with the new RM19-III Rackmount Kits and can therefore be easily integrated into professional 19-inch environments.

SteadyClock EX for Maximum Precision

With the advanced SteadyClock EX technology, the ADI-2/4 Pro EX achieves exceptionally precise clock stability. Each device is calibrated at the factory to a sample rate accuracy of ±1 ppm. Additionally, the internal menu allows for fine-tuning of the clock by ±50 ppm in 0.1 ppm steps.

This allows the internal clock to be precisely matched to other devices even without external synchronization – ideal for professional studio and mastering environments with complex digital setups.

Extended Analog Functions and Vinyl Optimization

RME has specifically extended the application possibilities of the ADI-2/4 Pro EX for high-quality analog and vinyl applications. The extended Ref Levels up to -35 dBu now also allow for direct connection of dynamic microphones and additional professional use cases.

Particularly interesting for vinyl enthusiasts: the integrated RIAA equalization is now also available in pure line mode with 0 dB gain. This allows external phono preamps or MC systems to be integrated much more flexibly.

Additionally, the balanced input impedance can be switched between 94 kOhm and 47 kOhm, allowing optimal matching of MM cartridges.

Flexible Monitoring and Professional Routing Options

The internal routing has also been expanded. For example, ADAT channels 3/4 can now be used directly as a source for the headphone output. This opens up additional possibilities for individual monitoring, professional workflows, and complex studio applications.

The combination of reference converter, powerful headphone amplifier, flexible signal processing, and uncompromising precision makes the ADI-2/4 Pro EX one of the most versatile audio tools in its class.
