10MHz is currently the most common word clock frequency; however, this frequency was originally chosen for GPS devices and not optimized for audio. Better than "Built-in"
Compared to "stand-alone" word clocks, built-in word clocks share system resources (power supplies, etc.) with other components, all interconnected on the same circuit board. There are many situations that can disrupt the clock signal, such as electrical impulses caused by changes in system load, interference with other electronic components, noise from the network, and system-related jitter effects. For this reason, an independent word clock source is essential: Less interference with the clock source ensures the purest possible clock signal.
