The new Thorens TD 1500, like its famous predecessor, is purely manually operated and features a sub-chassis that decouples the platter and tonearm board from the motor and plinth using three conical springs. Unlike the TD 150, these springs are adjustable from above through corresponding holes in the platter, which significantly facilitates correct adjustment.
The DC motor's speed is electronically monitored by an incremental encoder, and deviations, e.g., caused by a record cleaning brush, are automatically corrected. This also enables very good wow and flutter values. As a true unique selling point in its class, the TD 1500 features not only the usual pair of RCA jacks but also XLR outputs, thus allowing true balanced operation with a suitable MC cartridge.
NEWLY DEVELOPED TONEARM THORENS TP 150
The new TP 150 tonearm is similar to the TP 124 installed on the new TD 124 DD. It has an effective mass of 14 grams, is adjustable in height and azimuth, and is equipped with a standard SME connection, so there are no obstacles to changing the headshell or equipping it with a different cartridge. Antiskating is adjusted by a sliding weight in the arm base, which is adjusted on a nylon thread guided over a ruby bearing.
A high-quality and pre-adjusted 2M Bronze cartridge from the Danish cartridge specialist Ortofon is also supplied as standard. With its nude diamond with a Fine Line stylus, this proves to be a perfect playing partner.
